Eric Chester spent the beginning of his career as a teacher and coach, preparing young people for the challenges they would face in their futures. Inspired by the stories and problems that young people faced, he eventually left teaching to become a motivational speaker and found opportunity to speak to more than 2 million students.
Traveling the country, Eric began to notice that youth entering the workforce had a number of very different qualities from previous generations of young Americans. And as he came to understand more and more about his audience Eric felt that he needed to do more to reach out to those who employed them.
In the course of meeting with organizational leaders from small business owners to Fortune 500 Companies, one complaint about the emerging workforce kept coming up again and again: Today's youth had simply stopped demonstrating the classic American work ethic.
Eric realized that he could give back to both communities - youth and business - if he found a solution to this problem. In that moment, The A Game was born. Through years of research and work, Eric was able to fine tune and articulate the Seven Fundamental Workplace Values which became the basis for his book Bring Your A Game to Work. Collaborating closely with the renowned educators who formed The A Game Curriculum Committee, Eric eventually developed a complete package that included a supporting curriculum and certification.
In 2009, The A Game initiative moved into high gear when Eric brought President Matt Smith on board. Together, Matt and Eric completed development of the A Game curriculum and designed the A Game Certification test.
The A Game continues to grow and now serves the education and training needs of more than 100 organizations nationwide. As The A Game expands to include more and more businesses, educators and workforce development professionals we hope you too will find a role in the story of how America's Work Ethic was Rebuilt… one team member, one trainee and one student at a time.
